The work beneath the work

Why drawing, composition and visual judgement still sit beneath every tool and every finished image.

Foundation is the part of the work that travels with me from one brief to the next: drawing, composition, perspective, light and the judgement to know what an image needs. Tools change, but those decisions still determine whether an idea feels clear and convincing.

For Da Vinci’s Demons, I worked as lead illustrator on the main title sequence, building imagery from Leonardo’s anatomical studies, inventions, sketches and symbols. That work became part of the layered title system that earned the team the 2013 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Design.

That experience still shapes how I approach concept art, character design and AI-assisted exploration now. The finish may change. The foundation does not.
